Healing, Relationship with Food and Body...

HARRIET FREW
About this episode

Today, I’m talking to Jonny Landels, founder of Next Step Nutrition. Jonny is a lover of musicals, craft beer and great coffee, and he is a nutritionist, strength coach, and online health coach. Jonny works with chronic dieters to support them to ditch the diet mentality, overcome disordered eating habits, improve body image and holistic wellbeing to finally get results that last, in a sustainable way that suits their goals and values. Jonny uses a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, which focuses on building internal motivation for change.

Jonny hasn’t always had the best relationship with food and his body. He was teased about his weight as a child. This led to an obsession with getting shredded and changing his body, believing that this would be the solution to confidence and self-esteem for his previous performing career. Over the years, Jonny has been involved heavily in the fitness industry as a Crossfit coach and with a passion for health and nutrition. However, this led him to some very dark places, in relationship with food, body image and wellbeing. His journey to finding a more holistic place of wellness has inspired him to then support and encourage others to do the same in his coaching work.

This episode today is absolutely packed with nuggets of wisdom to support you on your recovery journey. Jonny talks about healing his own relationship with food and exercise, and the ups and downs of this. He untangles the nuances in determining whether your relationship with food or exercise is disordered. Jonny explains his health centred approach, focusing on changing behaviours (HAES aligned) and how you can put this into practice. He talks self-compassion, motivational interviewing, body image and more.

I hope that you enjoy the conversation.
