Is It Love, or Is It a Trauma Bond with ...

SHERRY GABA AND CARLA ROMO
About this episode

Sherry and Carla talk about their first jobs and other career paths they went on before meeting each other, and how it helps them out today. They take a Love Fix question on getting out of a toxic relationship, even if your family and friends don't recognize the need to leave, and then welcome Lisa Sonni. Lisa is a Certified Life and Relationship Coach, who helps clients of all genders and walks of life. Lisa herself is a survivor of domestic assault and narcissistic abuse, and she launched the Stronger Than Before Coaching Practice in 2011. Lisa talks with Sherry and Carla about what trauma bonding is, how it is similar and different to love addiction, and a few crucial tools to start the process of leaving a trauma-bonded relationship.

What You'll Hear In This Episode:

  • A Love Fix Question - I've been dating someone for 2.5 years and I feel like it's getting toxic! My friends and family don't see it though, and I feel too bad to break up. Should I make this relationship work?
  • What is trauma bonding?
  • How is trauma bonding part of narcissistic abuse?
  • Gain access to Lisa Sonni's Trauma Bond Recovery Workbook, along with how to work with Sherry and Carla on overcoming codependency, dating, break-ups, healing from toxic relationships, and gaining confidence.
  • It's not just co-dependents that can fall from a trauma-bonded relationship.
  • Trauma bonding feels like love but creates an unhealthy attachment between a victim and abuser.
  • What does it take to create a trauma bond?
  • Why is no contact and taking the relationship off the table important when dealing with a trauma bond?
  • Trauma bonds aren't just for romantic relationships but can be with family members as well.
  • Narcissists may not mean to hurt you, but they often aren't even aware of their actions or don't care about how it affects someone else.
  •  How long does it take somebody typically to get out of a trauma bond?
  • The difference between a toxic and abusive relationship: intention.
