Childhood Adversity, Diet Trauma and Gas...

HARRIET FREW
About this episode

Today I’m talking to Safi Abdi, a qualified Hypnotherapist, coach, and a trainee Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, dedicated to transforming lives through helping people to change their mindset and heal from diet trauma. As the host of the Gastric Mindset Podcast, Safi delves deep into the psychological roots of yo-yo dieting, empowering people who have had struggled with food and with insights and strategies for sustainable change.

From battling childhood obesity to undergoing weight loss surgery in 2015, Safi intimately understands the struggles of the journey to a healthier lifestyle. Her personal experiences have fuelled her mission to help others break free from the vicious cycle of dieting.

Drawing from her own journey and her ongoing training as a therapist, Safi offers personalised 1-2-1 coaching, providing clients with the tools and support they need to break free from destructive habits and cultivate lasting success on maintaining their weight loss after Bariatric surgery.

Excitingly, Safi is launching the Mind-Over-Diet community, offering accessible support for individuals navigating the challenges off recovering from, chronic dieting, disordered eating patterns and food addiction.

In the episode today, Safi shares openly about her childhood and teenage years, delving into the early trauma and later diet culture that profoundly impacted her. Safi explores the years of yo-yo diets and preoccupation with food, weight and body and the devastating impact on her wellbeing. She also talks about gastric surgery and her work in supporting others. Safi is an incredible inspiration, navigating the ups and downs of her healing journey. I’ll be inviting her back to talk more about gastric surgery and the aftermath of managing weight loss and relationship with food later this year. I hope that you enjoy it.
