Suicide

Abbott Nutrition Health Institute
About this episode

This episode contains discussions of suicide, which may be triggering for some listeners. If you, or someone you know, is struggling with thoughts of suicide, please seek help immediately by contacting a mental health professional, or calling or texting 988, the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

The latest available data from the Centers for disease Control and Prevention, National Violent Death Reporting System found that, between 2007 and 2018, nurses were 18 percent more likely to die from suicide than the general population. Among female nurses, the risk of death by suicide was nearly twice the risk observed in the general population.

In this episode of our Mental Health series, Dr. Patrick McGrath of NOCD will discuss suicide, including the importance of breaking “the silence code” if you are concerned about a colleague’s mental health, and what potential symptoms are of concern.
