Wings for Life World Run: Everything you...

The Mettleset
About this episode

Hey guys, Afshan here!

The Mettleset is doing its first running race as a team…and it’s all for a good cause.

Dawn and I have signed up for the amazing annual Wings for Life World Run, which supports the Wings for Life Foundation for spinal injury research. The race happens around the world on the same day and at the same time - this year being May 7.

It’s exciting for us to join this year’s event because the race is celebrating its 10th year. In 2022 alone, the Wings for Life World Run generated about AED 19,084,170 (€4,700,000) in donations thanks to the 161,892 participants from 192 countries.

The UAE edition is happening at 3PM at none other than the Expo City in Dubai. We’ll be at the start line with more than 270 or so residents, first-time runners and seasoned athletes who have already signed up the last time I checked.

It’s a unique race with no predetermined finish line and a Catcher car that you have to escape. The best part - you set your own goal. How’s that for being all inclusive?

And by participating in this fun run, you will also be helping support crucial medical research as all sign-up proceeds and donations go to the Wings for Life Foundation.

To find out more about the race, how to sign up and what to expect, I was joined by this year’s Wings for Life ambassador Gada Shaikli, an Obstacle Course Race athlete and long-time runner, who also won last year’s edition.

Gada also shares tips on how to prepare for the race in this episode.

For Dawn, this will be a run after years of not putting those running shoes on and for me, well,  my running shoes are going to hit tarmac on a very balmy Sunday afternoon. We’re both looking forward to a challenge!
