Ep. 45 - Do You Self-Gaslight?

Michelle Maros & Barb Schmidt
About this episode

In continuation of last week’s conversation about gaslighting, Barb and Michelle dive into the topic of self-gaslighting, and how many of us unconsciously fall into this habit. Learn how to detect the subtle signs of self-gaslighting, and how we can proactively change our thoughts and behaviors. Follow us @MichelleMaros and @Peaceful_Barb and share your experiences with us @BarbKnowsBestPod or at www.michellemaros.com/podcast.

Episode Notes:

Subtle signs of self-gaslighting:

  • Constantly making excuses for harmful behavior of other people.
  • Rejecting or repressing your emotions.
  • Calling yourself over-sensitive. Your feelings are valid. Take a pause and feel the feelings before you take your next action.
  • You blame yourself for things out of your control. You don’t have control over other people. You only have control over your own actions.
  • You believe you don’t deserve to be happy because you aren’t worthy. We are all worthy.
  • You stay in situations that make you feel unsafe because you don’t trust your intuition and you don’t want to be rude.
  • We talk ourselves out of following our hearts.

Remember to honor your feelings how you are feeling in the moment. Stand up for yourself in a way that doesn’t harm the other person but still affirms who you are.
