About this episode

Do you do this? Someone gives you a complement and you deflect, saying: yes I did do that well, but look at this other thing I did. You shrug off the good things you do and focus all the time on what you didn’t do or what you didn’t do well You make light of the good things and you shine a bright light on things that are not going well. You constantly think about what isn’t going well. What you did wrong. Any misstep you made. You pretty much ignore anything you did that was right, went well or took you a step closer to your goals. You are negating the good things you are doing, simply because you’re still not there yet. You’re not at your final goal, so you think all those good things you are doing along the way just don’t count.

It used to be that when I asked my clients how they were doing since the last time we spoke, I’d get a long laundry list of all the things they thought they had done wrong. Why is it a problem that we focus on the negatives and shrug off the positives? and let’s talk about why I think you should consciously try to stop doing this. When you focus on what’s wrong with you, your life, your body, your eating, and your actions, the thoughts you are creating from this negative spotlight make you feel bad. Ashamed. Hopeless. Pessimistic. And fundamentally flawed. Join me today to learn more about how your negativity bias takes you in the opposite direction you want to go towards. The first step will be seeing where you usually focus. And if you’re like most of us, you’ll be surprised at how often you focus on what didn’t go right.
