Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend!
I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…
Emily: Hi Dr Cabral, thank you for the work you do sharing reputable information with the masses. I'm 39 years old, 10kg over ideal BMI weight, and am a beginner runner. I am running at a slower pace (7-8 mins per km), but my heart rate gets up to a max HR of 180 after maybe 5 minutes then stays there until I walk. I have a Garmin smartwatch so know this is in the 'maximum' HR area. My question is: Is that ok? Is it only because we have monitors these days that we worry about generic metrics? I also know the smartwatch algorithms are based on men, so do I need to worry - or not run at all? I feel well when I run and after, but have a family history of heart disease so don't want to do any damage. Appreciate you! Emily from Australia
Jenny: Hi Dr Cabral - there seems to be a lot of promotion and recommendations lately for daily electrolytes. You mentioned recently who should/should not take them. What about brands? What should we look for and how often can they be taken? Of course the best option is the natural one you recommend - water with sea salt with lemon or lime. But what about brands to buy for when we're on the go? Thank you so much!
Gina: Hi Dr. Cabral, Thank you for everything you do and I'm so grateful to be a part of our IHP community! I had a question for you regarding pets and parasites. I know we can get parasites from our pets and our sheepadoodle sleeps in bed with us like a person. Is there a protocol that you recommend or use for pets to eliminate parasites? I know they sell various options at the pet store but would like to use a brand or method that you trust. I also wanted to ask if you use anything to remineralize your pets' water. Our dogs drink reverse osmosis but didn't know if I should add anything else to their water. Thank you, Gina
Gina: Hi Dr. Cabral, Me again with one last question for you. A few years ago, I had a significant autoimmune flare and had positive Lupus markers when my PCP ran bloodwork (ANA and dsDNA). I worked through the functional labs, protocols, made lifestyle changes, and the next time she ran bloodwork, I was symptom free and both markers were negative. I've been symptom-free since then and these markers have remained negative for two years. Recently, both markers came back positive, but the thing is that I feel great. Should I be worried about tissue damage if ANA is positive? I feel grateful that I know what to do this time around, but would appreciate any advice. We also found mold in our house, so working on mold detox and remediation. Thank you so much for everything you do, Gina
Lily: Hi Dr. Cabral, I was wondering, what is the best source for chick peas? Should we stay away from canned chicked peas? Also, is it ok to cook them? Thank you
