SLP 456: Riding the Waves with Kimberley...

THE WELLNESS COUCH
About this episode

‘One thing I did learn from my counsellor is try not to look too far ahead, like have goals for sure, definitely have a vision and a goal but know that that vision and goal may not turn into what you think because your path might be set in a different direction where you go… ‘What?’ but then when you get to the other side, like me talking to you today is mind boggling , I never thought I would be on a podcast, and just riding that wave and try to keep your head above water and going is this really happening?’ ~ Kimberley Jane

A beautiful conversation with the amazing Kimberley Jane who shared her personal journey of overcoming adversity, including her experiences within her relationship, bullying, and being a single parent. She spoke powerfully about how these challenges have shaped her into a resilient and determined individual. She also discussed her work as an Australian registered therapy dog trainer, the impact of her therapy dogs on people’s lives, and her plans to start a charity using the proceeds from her children’s illustration book. The conversation also touched on the importance of self-love, seeking help when needed and the power of being your own best friend.

Kimberley Jane is a dedicated educator, author, and nationally accredited Animal Assisted Dog Handler with over 26 years of teaching experience. A devoted mother to three – Felicity, Jamason, and Zoe – she has navigated immense personal challenges with unwavering resilience and self-love.

Her journey of transformation led her to co-author the children’s book Walk a Week With Us in School with her daughter Zoe, showcasing the profound impact of therapy dogs. Her beloved dogs, Daisy-Anne and Mickey, are not just companions but healing forces, providing comfort and support in educational and therapeutic settings.

Despite experiencing deep personal loss, workplace adversity, and professional setbacks, she has emerged stronger, embracing reinvention and new purpose. Through her writing, public speaking, and advocacy for self-worth, she inspires others to find light in the darkest times. Her philosophy – centred on resilience, self-love, and the power of new beginnings – echoes through her work, reminding us that even after life’s hardest trials, we can rise, rebuild, and thrive.

Guided by passion, people, and purpose, she continues to make a difference – one story, one step, and one paw at a time.

Her definition of Self Love is loving yourself enough to not give up, loving yourself enough to get help if needed and loving yourself enough to say ok I am ready for the next step.

Her favourite quote is from:
‘And still I rise… No matter what I still rise above and overcome what life throws at me.’

Quotes:
Loving yourself enough means you do not give up on yourself.
Resilience saved me.
I am so grateful for all the highs and lows and that I am still here.
You are the driver of your own destiny.
It’s ok to not be ok.
Life isn’t perfect. No feeling is permanent.
It’s just who I am and that’s ok.
It’s fun to do the impossible.
New beginnings give you the freedom to make choices for yourself and your worth.
If you can’t see sunshine find someone to sit with you in the rain.
And still I rise.
