July is Minority Mental Health Month
This month, and all year long, it is crucial that our communities, churches, schools, organizations, etc., raise the banner for mental health.
Mental health issues are a major concern in the African-American and minority communities in general. It was reported in 2023 that 21 percent of African Americans admitted to having some type of mental health issue, such as depression, compared to 23 percent in the white community, who readily confess to seeking mental health therapy.
Ironically, although 21 percent of African-Americans admitted to mental struggles, only 39 percent have received any type of treatment, while 52 percent of people in non- minority or white communities are receiving mental health treatment. What's wrong with this picture, I ask you?
