Do Our Children Have the Right to Say “N...

MICHELLE KENNEY, M. ED
About this episode

When our child says “no” it can send us into emotional turmoil both because of how we were raised and how society views a child who stands up for themselves. But no doesn’t need to be a dirty word, and our children need to have the space to explore standing up for themselves. If they aren’t allowed to do it at home how can they ever set boundaries as they grow up. What of yes too, if we are insisting on “yes” is that yes we receive authentic or is it coerced somehow and only used as a way to please us?

Sterna is my guest today, she helps us unravel this sticky parenting moment, and gives us her incredible insights into why no is more than just a child being defiant on purpose and ways we can work through the moments when our children use no.

Episode Highlights:

  • Why “No” isn’t always bad
  • Collaboration works better than blind obedience
  • Letting go of complete control
  • Respecting our kids, so they respect us

How can we “shame proof” our parenting?

There are ways we can eradicate shame from our everyday interactions with our children. Building in ways to address our children can promote resilience and self-esteem rather than jeopardizing these precious commodities for our children. Nobody wants to shame, but sometimes we need a little help figuring out what else we can do. Click here to download the FREE guide now - https://www.peaceandparentingla.com/shame-opt-in
