How do you know if a feeling is intuition — or anxiety?
This can be one of the hardest things to discern, especially when you are trying to make an important decision. Both intuition and anxiety can show up in the body. Both can create a strong sense of yes or no. Both can make you pause, pull back, or feel that something matters.
So how do you tell the difference?
In this episode of The Midlife Spirituality Project, we explore intuition vs. anxiety, how they are alike, how they are different, and how to recognize whether fear or inner guidance is leading you.
This is especially important in midlife, when so many women are reevaluating relationships, work, identity, purpose, boundaries, and what they want the next chapter of life to look like.
After years of listening to other people’s needs, expectations, opinions, and advice, learning to listen inward can feel unfamiliar.
And even when we do listen inward, fear can be loud.
In this episode, we explore how anxiety often feels urgent, repetitive, and focused on avoiding discomfort or uncertainty, while intuition often arrives more simply and quietly. Intuition may still guide you toward something scary, but underneath the fear there is often a deeper sense of truth or alignment.
We also look at this through the lens of yoga philosophy, including viveka, or discernment — the practice of learning to see clearly.
The goal is not to eliminate fear before making a decision. It is to become grounded enough to recognize which voice is speaking.
In This Episode:
Questions to Ask Yourself When Making a Decision:
What is the fear saying?
What am I afraid will happen?
Am I trying to avoid discomfort, rejection, uncertainty, or disappointment?
What do I know beneath the fear?
If no one else’s opinion mattered, what would feel true?
If I trusted myself, what would I choose?
Does this feel like self-protection — or self-abandonment?
What is the next honest step, even if I do not know the entire path?
