About this episode

Medical oath: after Hippocrates, let's meet Augusta!

Welcome to French Baratin, the podcast where you can improve your listening comprehension by listening to discussions on French society.

In our main episode, you heard from Perrine, a young doctor, about her studies and her vision of the world of healthcare. A few years ago, Cécile, Rafael and Sibylle attended Perrine's thesis defense. At the end, there was a very moving moment: just after being declared a doctor, Perrine stood up and recited the Hippocratic Oath.

This oath comes from Antiquity and has been adapted to the modern world. But none of its current versions explicitly mentions themes such as patient consent to medical acts, or the need for doctors to take care of their own mental health and accept their own vulnerability in order to provide better care. To address these important issues, a podcast co-produced by Sorbonne University and Binge audio offers an alternative: Augusta's Oath. In this mini-episode, we introduce you to this podcast and the major principles of medical ethics it puts forward!
