SLP 464: Navigating Love, Life and Paren...

THE WELLNESS COUCH
About this episode

‘This is huge, a big point and I guess a point of friction in relationships right now and historically. And that is the difference between the nourishing mother and the beautiful caring type, energy that is there, and they just want to give and give and give versus the masculine archetype which is the man who sets the boundaries and when I say no, it means no and that’s the end and now there’s a consequence for that. And that’s a hard balance.’ ~ Michael

‘I don’t know if it’s anything to do with how we parent them, I think it’s more the model that they see as their parents. You know it’s not so much how I am parenting with my son Kai, its more so what he is witnessing from us in a relationship as a husband and wife. That I feel is more powerful and will have more impact on the partner he will choose in the future.’

In this week’s podcast Kim welcome’s Michael and Amy Stuth to the show where these special souls shared their personal journeys and experiences as a couple, discussing the importance of self-love and how to make relationships work. They dive deep into topics such as balancing individuality with motherhood, understanding one’s role in relationships, and the impact of guilt on relationships. They share their transformative program for couples, ‘Reconnected Union’, and the importance of self-love in fostering deep, meaningful relationships.

We discuss the concepts of the transition of the honeymoon phase to reality phase which is a pivotal point and can be the most magical transition of your life. Being in love with another is the highest reward in life. And it can be heartache and pain. It is whether you turn away from each other or towards the relationship when it is tough. Michael and Amy lean into asking deeper questions bringing you closer to self-love. And to an even deeper third part of love and that is the mature phase.

Michael and Amy Stuth are relationship coaches and the founders of The Reconnected Union, a transformative program for couples ready to reignite intimacy, deepen connection, and break free from unhealthy relationship patterns. Their journey together began in 2005, following a conventional path of careers, homeownership, and starting a family, only to find themselves in a disconnected power struggle despite their love for each other.
Rather than settling for a relationship that felt flat and uninspired, they embarked on a journey of deep personal and relational growth. Through years of self-exploration, emotional healing, and embodiment work, they transformed their partnership into one of unwavering support, passion, and authenticity. Now, they guide couples through that same process, blending insights from Emotionally Focused Therapy, nervous system regulation, and practical tools for relational healing.
Michael specialises in guiding men step into healthy masculinity with confidence, presence, and emotional depth. Amy brings her expertise in self-connection, communication and helping women feel seen, valued, and heard in their relationships. Together, they offer a balanced, holistic approach to love and intimacy that moves beyond traditional marriage counselling.

Free offering to listeners: A Conscious Communication Strategy PDF with instructional video to move from power struggle to partnership, clarity and deep connection.

Their definition of Self Love is:
When I am in alignment that is self-love. Michael
It is loving the hardest-to-love parts of myself. Amy

Their favourite quote is:
“The love you seek in another can only be as deep as the love you hold for yourself.”
“Your conflicts, all the difficult things, the problematic situations in your life are not chance or haphazard.

They are actually yours. They are specifically yours, designed specifically for you by a part of you that loves you more than anything else. The part of you that loves you more than anything else has created roadblocks to lead you to yourself.

You are not going in the right direction unless there is something pricking you in the side, telling you, “Look here! This way!” That part of you loves you so much that it doesn’t want you to lose the chance. It will go to extreme measures to wake you up, it will make you suffer greatly if you don’t listen.

What else can it do? That is its purpose.”
~ A.H. Almaas

Quotes:
The journey is ever evolving for us both.
The flaw is at the root cause and the challenge is to get there.
We believe in starting from the base up in the family.
It’s when the kids came along that the tide turned for us both.
Finding my individuality was paramount to my growth.
Social changes are happening so quickly that we have to navigate our way through them.
It takes intentional work from you both with intention and compassion.
Count from 5 down to zero and then make a response, remove the emotionality.
If we can be curious and interested in our partner then that helps hugely.
If the self-love is not there, then there’s an awareness shift.
When I am in alignment that is self love.
It is loving the hardest-to-love parts of myself.
Love is the highest vibrational energy.
The love you seek in another can only be as deep as the love you hold for yourself.
