Clay Blegie, a parent of two adult children on the autism spectrum, vividly recalls the humble beginnings of the Lower Shore Autism Community. His journey with the organization commenced in late 2020, when the founder, Barry Johansen, invited him to a small gathering of individuals facing similar challenges. As they candidly shared their experiences, a sense of unity and purpose emerged. Today, the organization has blossomed into a nonprofit, extending vital support to the local community. Clay's heartfelt account reflects the profound impact of finding solace in shared narratives. It's a testament to the power of community and the resilience of individuals navigating the complexities of raising children with autism.,Hannah, a devoted advocate for autism awareness, vividly recounts her introduction to the Lower Shore Autism Community. Encouraged by a friend to attend a meeting in late 2020, she found herself among a small group of individuals sharing their experiences of raising children on the spectrum. From these humble beginnings, the organization has flourished into a beacon of support for families in the local community. Hannah's narrative serves as a poignant reminder of the transformative power of shared experiences and the unwavering strength found within a supportive community. Her journey reflects the resilience and determination of those navigating the unique challenges of autism, embodying the spirit of compassion and understanding that defines the organization.

Autism doesn't define you. You define autism. - Hannah

Instead of trying so hard to have autistic people fit in, let's educate people on how to understand autistic people. - Clay Beige

Just because you're autistic, that doesn't change who you are. Some people may not like you and that's okay. It might be because they don't understand you. Not everybody will understand somebody with autism and that's okay. - Hannah
