200 BM Daily Vocabulary #57 | context

BM ENGLISH SPEAKING INSTITUTE PVT LTD.
About this episode

Today’s word is: context –The meaning of context is: the subject, main topic, or any topic that is related to the discussion or topic for reference

the circumstances that form the setting of an event and the terms of which can be understood clearly.

In this English vocabulary lesson, you will learn how to use the word context. We are sure that this ESL lesson will help you to enhance your English vocabulary and speak English fluently and confidently.

Do you come across situations when you ask someone to do something and that person just cannot understand what to do? It’s frustrating, isn’t it? Well, often because that person does not understand the context in which the instruction is given. So, he or she may find it difficult to execute the same.

Listen carefully on how we can use the word context in 8 different situations in 8 different sentences.

Example number 1 of 8: Shalaka joined the science experiment midway. So she was not aware of the context in which the experiment is carried out. She requested her professor and he explained the concepts to her.

Example number 2 of 8: Allen would often win debates in school and college competitions. The key to his success was that he would prepare his notes based on the exact context of the given topic and then present his side in the debate.

Example number 3 of 8: The multinational company was about to launch a new health drink in the Indian market. But before that, it appointed a consultant to research and to finalize the context of the advertising pattern. After all, the market size is almost 800 Crores.

Example number 4 of 8: The context of a legal document is very important. It takes into consideration the circumstances and provisions of the law.

Example number 5 of 8: The Parulekar family went on a tour to Brazil. Before they landed in Brazil, they studied the cultural context of the local community. This helped them to bond with the local community.

Example number 6 of 8: Mrs. Joshi is a history teacher, who is admired by her students for her immense (we know this word) knowledge. Students love to attend her teaching sessions because she explains the exact context of historical events.

Example number 7 of 8: The words quick and fast both mean the same in English. But, their usage depends on the context. We say a fast train and not a quick train. Can you think of more such examples?

Example number 8 of 8: Danny was always concerned about his dressing style and he hired an image consultant. The consultant advised him to “choose between formal and informal attire depending on the context of the occasion.”
