The word extrapolate is used when one forms an opinion based on information available with oneself. We can say that the stock market analysts study past financial data of a company and extrapolate its future performance.

Example number 1 of 8: Do you know that many apps collect a lot of personal information about you while you use those apps? This information is then used to extrapolate patterns of your online shopping.

Example number 2 of 8: Geologists process huge amount of data related to the Earth. This data is collected from ancient objects discovered around the world. They utilize this data to extrapolate the geological developments expected in the years to come.

Example number 3 of 8: Chess is one of the popular games all over the world. Garry Kasparov was a world champion for 19 long years. He had a great ability to extrapolate the future moves of the opponent and that made all the difference.

Example number 4 of 8: Have heard about pre-election polls? Through these polls, data is collected about voters’ preferences. Based on this, an extrapolation is done to assess the winning candidates.

Example number 5 of 8: The products by FMCG companies cater to a large population of users. There is intense competition amongst these companies to capture a larger market share. Most companies gather feedback from users and use it to extrapolate the consumer behavior.

Example number 6 of 8: Do you know about clinical trials of medicines? Clinical trials are carried out on a select group of patients to study the effects of the medicine. The results are then extrapolated to finalize the chemical composition of the medicine.

Example number 7 of 8: Mr. Godbole, the MD of a Travel and tourism company asked his staff to monitor the flow of tourists at popular city spots and monuments. He wanted this data to create a marketing strategy. Therefore, he extrapolated this data and designed attractive tour packages for offering to these tourists.

Example number 8 of 8: Extrapolation is one of the techniques to predict the future demand for a product. The operations planning department uses it frequently to plan for production and stocking of inventory.
