Today’s word is: intervene –The meaning of intervene is: to intentionally become involved in some difficult situation to improve it or prevent it from getting worse. It also means to happen between two time periods or events.

The word intervene is used when someone gets involved in an event to improve or change the situation. For example, we can say the referee intervened between two arguing opponents to prevent an ugly scene.

Example number 1 of 8: The court case between two neighbors had dragged for years. Ultimately, the magistrate intervened and settled the matter to the satisfaction of both the parties.

Example number 2 of 8: British ruled over India for almost 150 years. Countless freedom fighters lost their lives during the intervening period fighting against the British Empire.

Example number 3 of 8: Ranbir noticed that some of the foreign tourists were facing harassment at the hands of few locals in his town. He realized that it was spoiling the image of his town. Hence, he intervened and stopped this harassment.

Example number 4 of 8: News spread in a village that some dacoits had entered the village. The villagers became highly vigilant. One night, they caught a few dacoits and started beating them. However, the local police intervened and arrested the suspects.

Example number 5 of 8: Benjamin would often come late from college and go to his room. He avoided any interaction with his family members. This got his family worried. Ultimately, his grandfather intervened and brought the family members closer again.

Example number 6 of 8: Vikrant was selected to take part in a play. The role needed him to be fluent in reciting dialogues in Urdu. He took special coaching during the intervening period and delivered his part extremely well.

Example number 7 of 8: The film industry was extremely troubled due to piracy of the films. There was a great loss of revenue due to this. Finally, they met the head of the cybercrime prevention department and requested their intervention.

Example number 8 of 8: The timely intervention of the CEO was necessary to clear the growing tension and misunderstanding amongst the factory workers. He met the workers over an informal lunch and brought the situation under control.
