It was time for Mr. Nayan, the chairman of the company, to retire and nominate someone else in his place. Everyone was anticipating that he will nominate his son Jagdish. However, they were in for a surprise, as he nominated his daughter Jaya, to manage the company. Jaya was not only ambitious but she was well educated and highly skilled in personnel management (managing people or a group).

Listen carefully on how we can use the word anticipate in 8 different sentences in 8 different / situations.

Example number 1 of 8: Lawrence would receive the house rent from his tenant Shelly on time. However, last month it was delayed by one week. Lawrence was anticipating the cheque every day until he received it.

Example number 2 of 8: This year, the sales figures of the newly launched mobile phone were sky high (it means phenomenal- we know this word, don’t we?). All the employees of the phone manufacturing company were anticipating an increment.

Example number 3 of 8: Reena was engaged to Sherman. Her parents had selected him and she had met him only once. Her anticipation of their compatibility was natural and understandable. And guess what, her fiancée, Sherman turned out to be a gem of a person (a wonderful and caring person).

Example number 4 of 8: The international school had organized an exhibition of paintings of their students. All the revenue earned was going to be donated to charity. Hence, they were anticipating a good turnout (expecting many people to visit). And yes it was a grand success.

Example number 5 of 8: Jenna was anticipating a ‘C’ grade in her research project as she had completed it in one day. However, to her pleasant surprise, she got an A+ grade owing to her sincerity and dedication.

Example number 6 of 8: Mr. Das was anticipating a huge compensation from the construction company. He had given up his ancestral Villa for redevelopment. The Villa had a vast orchard and a lake behind it too.

Example number 7 of 8: The small grocery shop was taken over by a chain of supermarkets. The employees were anticipating the loss of employment. Can you guess what happened? The new owners retained all the existing employees but made several structural changes.

Example number 8 of 8: A tea stall owner was convicted for a theft (robbery). Everyone was anticipating that he will be sent behind the bars (in prison). However, he was proved innocent and the actual culprit was arrested.
