Today’s word is: arbitrary –Would you like to know what it means? It means Something that is determined by judgment, preference, notion or intuition and not for any specific reason or rule. Not fixed by rules, but left to one's judgment or choice.

Example number 1 of 8: The sales manager was not performing too well, however, he was promoted owing to the director’s arbitrary choice. It was surprising to see the drastic change as he outperformed everyone in his team once he was promoted.

Example number 2 of 8: The society committee was formed by arbitrary voting. This means no proper procedure was followed while selecting the committee members. This had created a lot of disappointment for society members.

Example number 3 of 8: It was a bright sunny day and the weather forecast too indicated that the people could enjoy a pleasant evening. Somehow, Janet decided to stay in the house arbitrarily because she had an intuition that it might rain. Can you believe what happened? It rained that evening.

Example number 4 of 8: Soham was unprepared for his Mathematics test but appeared for it. He gave arbitrary answers and the result was as expected. He got a C grade and the teacher told him to reappear for the test if he wanted to score good marks in the final exam.

Example number 5 of 8: Mr. Satish had an arbitrary angry outburst (sudden expression) on his marketing team. It was not because they had made a mistake, but since he was having a bad day and he lost his cool.

Example number 6 of 8: Evelyn wanted to have a long and adventurous holiday as she had not taken one in the last three years. Do you know what did she do? She arbitrarily took off in her car and drove across the country.

Example number 7 of 8: Mr. Tiwari’s students never completed their homework on time and he would punish them. This time, he took an arbitrary decision and instead of punishing them, he assigned community service to them.

Example number 8 of 8: A pharmaceutical company’s board of directors had met up on a video conference call to discuss the quarterly revenues. During the call, the chairman of the company arbitrarily invited them to his daughter’s wedding.
