Example number 1 of 8: While traveling on a family road trip, the kids were constantly taking names of various animals and birds like, snow bear, camel, peacock and so on. Mrs. Jonas (the mother) was astounded (surprised) because they were on a highway and there were no forests or snow around. So what exactly were they watching? The kids were watching the clouds and perceiving the shape of the animal or bird that they could visualize in the sky. So what may seem like a cloud to us, children may perceived it as an animal or a bird.
Example number 2 of 8: Comfort shoes was a dying business. Everyone in the industry perceived it as a loss-making business with no future at all. However, Mr. Rajat Chopra, owner of a competing firm perceived it differently. He perceived it as a firm that lacked leadership and direction. He took over the company, changed the designers, vendors and marketing strategy. It took just one year for them to recover all their losses and now they are a profit making company.
Example number 3 of 8: The class was informed that the trainer will be delayed by 15 minutes owing to traffic issues just before the class started. This situation seemed as a waste of time to some of the students. However, Betty perceived it as an opportunity and she took the initiative to revise the previous day’s lessons with the class. When the trainer arrived, the class was ready for the session.
Example number 4 of 8: Samantha was not invited for Caitlyn’s birthday and she perceived that she was being ignored and got upset. When Caitlyn realized this, she immediately clarified it with her. This eliminated the misunderstanding between them.
Example number 5 of 8: Pratima and Shraddha were arguing over a small issue in the office. Pratima was quick to perceive that such arguments were futile (meaningless). Hence, she stopped arguing immediately.
Example number 6 of 8: Rocky had a physical disability, yet he had taken up an office job from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. everyone at his office had immense respect for him. Do you know why? Because he perceived himself as completely normal like anyone else and would seek help only if it was urgent. This attitude helped him gain everyone’s respect in his workplace. This also teaches us a vital lesson. Many times people perceive us the way we perceive ourselves.
Example number 7 of 8: Have you ever witnessed a crime scene or seen a picture of one? Can you connect the dots here? I’m sure you can. At a crime scene, where normally, people perceive things as they see, a detective will perceive those as evidence.
