Scott Allender #1 | Emotional Intelligen...

Kevin Miller | YAP Media
About this episode

Our world applauds people with a high IQ. And yet someone having a high IQ has zero value to me personally. It may have no value for that person or anyone. It merely says they have the possibility of capacity. It doesn’t mean they can or will do anything worthwhile with it, and even if they are brilliant and figure out how to live on Mars, they may be miserable and make everyone else miserable. So what is a better measuring stick for overall potential than IQ? I submit to you it is EQ. Emotional quotient. Or emotional intelligence. My guest today is an expert and cites that emotional intelligence as the single biggest predictor of our personal and professional success. Scott Allender is an expert in global leadership and organizational development. Along with co-hosting The Evolving Leader podcast, he regularly teaches Enneagram workshops and conducts typing interviews and emotional intelligence assessments for individuals and teams who seek to become more radically self-aware and cognizant of the impact they have on the world. His new book is titled, The Enneagram of Emotional Intelligence: A Journey to Personal and Professional Success. Let me candidly offer to you that my inspiration for this show is my own journey of becoming more…much more…emotionally intelligent. In the past I thought I was, as most emotionally unintelligent people believe. I let some things I was good at, like controlling my emotional expression and my social awareness trick me into thinking I was emotionally intelligent. And the truth that finally reared its ugly head was that I was very emotionally unintelligent. Join me as we change some paradigms and give some hope to what you can become.
