A listener asks: "Why do I cry during sex? My partner is so upset because he thinks he's hurting me. But he's not! Why do I cry? What can I do?" Anne Bland discusses emotions during sex and how liberating, energising, and very normal they are. Did you know that emotions and feelings are different and not synonyms? Emotions tend to be suppressed and based on past experiences. They can become dramatic, destructive, and unkind due to the unexpressed nature of them. They are based on the ego and have pain and shame attached to them. However, feelings are felt consciously in the present moment, and they tend to be more vulnerable, authentic, and heartfelt. Bringing consciousness into emotions helps to express them and connect with yourself and your partner. Being able to cry during sex is therefore worth a celebration! Safety of the lover and the feel-good hormones such as dopamine and oxytocin help to bring anything that has been suppressed to the surface. Crying helps to liberate energy because suppression takes so much effort and can cause exhaustion and burnout. Men are also invited to bravely express their own feelings to magnetise and sensitise their genitalia for more presence and to hold a safe space for their partners to model conscious feelings. There is a trigger warning as Anne discusses the abuse of female bodies due to their physical vulnerability and how to deal with it. As the previous listerner requested Anne is finishing this episode with a meditation which si also a taster of the future private podcast called Pleasure Quest.
