How To Build A 700,000 Subscriber Newsle...

Liv Perez
About this episode
Did you know that less than 14% of sports journalists are female? Or that less than 4% of sports coverage is on female athletes? In 2019, three college friends — Jacie deHoop, Ellen Hyslop and Roslyn McLarty — founded The GIST after noticing that there wasn’t a hub for female sports lovers to come together in the male-dominated sports industry. The result - a newsletter that provides a fresh and fun perspective on sports delivered straight to your inbox. Today, they have over 700,000 subscribers who loyally read their 4x-weekly sports news newsletter, 3x-weekly women's sports biz newsletter, and listen to their podcast The GIST of It. In this episode, Ellen and I talk about the newsletter boom and its impact, her best hack for getting new subscribers, and the lack of visibility for women in sports and where we need progress.    Love the show?
