How to Be Empathetic When Our Kids Are B...

MICHELLE KENNEY, M. ED
About this episode

Defiant and strong-willed children are something I’m sure we’ve all experienced. Whether it’s as toddlers or teenagers, it’s a tale as old as time in the book of parenting. Sometimes when this defiance is targeted towards you or their siblings, it can lead to further conflict so you want to find a way to properly nip that in the bud.

As a mother of two young girls, my guest, Liz, is no stranger to these frustrations so she and I will discuss her dynamics with her daughters, how to manage conflict and negative emotions in their family, and the importance of taking care of herself because even mommies need a little self-care too.

The path of connective parenting is a lot of hard work, but the loving relationship we’ll create with our kids will make all of it worth it, so make sure to tune into this episode!

Episode Highlights:

  • Leaning into play when our kids are frustrated or defiant
  • Setting consequences without punishment
  • How to deal with the sibling rivalry between Liz’ daughters
  • Responding to our kids’ resentment with empathy and self-care
  • How to handle tantrums and turn them into an opportunity to form a connection

Are you ready to change your family dynamic through connective parenting? Work with me one on one and together we’ll hone in on the sources of discontent and chaos, and find solutions that are specific to your family’s needs. It doesn’t matter if you are married or single, if you parent alone or you want to do this with your parenting partner.
