Yesterday we looked at several development projects that voters rejected in Tuesday's midterm elections.
Today we're going to examine another group of ballot initiatives that could have significant consequences for real estate investors, developers, and property owners.
These involve housing affordability, property taxes, and the regulations governing new construction.
What's fascinating about these results is the apparent contradiction in how voters think about housing.
People want more affordable housing. They want lower property taxes. They want better infrastructure.
But they don't necessarily want greater density, higher government spending, or more development in their own neighborhoods.
Reconciling these competing priorities is one of the central challenges facing the real estate industry.
