Title: The Goddess Who Forgot Her Name
Level: Advanced (C1-C2)
Description
On a grey morning, a lighthouse keeper's daughter watches a star fall into the sea off the fishing village of Corrowen. By noon, the fishermen have pulled a woman from the shallows, wearing a robe the exact color of the sky just before sunrise, with no memory of who she is. The village's kindest and sharpest-tongued net-mender takes her in and gives her a name.
For three years, she lives an ordinary life: mending nets, baking bad bread, learning which fish to throw back. Then the dawn begins to fail, and a stranger with black wings arrives to tell her who she really is, and what the world is losing without her. She now holds two lives in her heart, and neither can be given up without grief.
The Goddess Who Forgot Her Name is an original myth with an invented goddess, pantheon, and village, written for advanced English learners in a warm, lyrical register. It builds toward a complete and moving ending in which a threshold is mended in an unexpected way, a divine gift is shared with a village, and one long life is brought gently to its close.
