Title: The Last Ascent
Level: Upper-Intermediate (B2-C1)
Description
Dr. Anjali Rai has a strict rule about falling in love with climbers: do not. But in her fifth season as the doctor at Everest Base Camp, a quiet, weather-worn Sherpa guide named Tenzin walks into her tent with a bandaged thumb, and the rule begins to fail.
During the long weeks of waiting for the weather to clear, the two of them grow closer under a sky full of stars. Then summit day arrives, a storm rolls in far faster than forecast, and Anjali hears a voice on the radio that forces both of them to face the choice every mountain love story eventually has to make.
The Last Ascent is a dramatic, emotional romance set on the highest mountain on Earth, written for upper-intermediate and advanced English learners. It builds through a night of real danger toward a complete and moving ending that tells the reader exactly what the mountain cost, and what it gave back.
