St. Jerome spent decades in a Bethlehem cave translating the entire Bible so ordinary people could finally read it themselves.
Working from the original Hebrew rather than the easier Greek text, Jerome produced the Vulgate — the Latin Bible that shaped Catholic worship for over a thousand years. Sharp-tempered and imperfect, he still gave his whole life to a conviction he never let go of: that knowing Christ means knowing Scripture.
