St. Wenceslaus — the "Good King Wenceslas" of the Christmas carol — snuck out barefoot at night to give alms in secret.
Raised in the faith by his grandmother Ludmila, who was later murdered for her influence over him, Duke Wenceslaus of Bohemia carried alms to the poor in the dark so no one would see him do it. He was martyred by his own brother in 935, dying for the very faith Ludmila had first planted in his heart.
"He wasn't sneaking away from his duties. He was sneaking toward them."
