Hannah Wilkes is joined by John Cross, James Olley and Jonathan Northcroft to reflect on the weekend’s sporting action.
We kick off with Spurs’ difficult start to the season. Roberto De Zerbi’s side sit in the bottom three, having failed to score in their opening three games. But the biggest talking point is the VAR decision that ruled out Neco Williams’ goal — a decision that, had it stood, would have separated the two sides and condemned Spurs to a third consecutive defeat. John believes the referees got it wrong, so we ask: should there be a higher threshold for VAR intervention?
We then turn to Manchester City’s “ugly” 1-0 win over Coventry. But is Jonathan being too harsh with his assessment that it’s “just like Pep, but slower and far less decisive”?
Finally, we turn to a frantic summer transfer window and assess the new squad cost ratio rules. Are they leaving smaller clubs with no choice but to sell, sell, sell?
