No one who seeks sincerely will find barriers to achieving knowledge of the higher worlds, for initiation will find the seeker whatever the circumstances. There is a universal law among initiates that the knowledge due a seeker cannot be withheld. But there is also another universal law that esoteric knowledge may not be imparted to anyone not qualified to receive it. These two laws form the spiritual bond that unites all initiates.
In his book How To Know Higher Worlds, Austrian philosopher and esotericist Rudolf Steiner describes the inner work required for developing spiritual perception. While we perceive the physical world through our ordinary senses, Steiner states that the supersensible world can be perceived through what he calls “spiritual organs of perception.” These faculties lie dormant within us and can be awakened through specific exercises and practices.
Insight into the higher worlds is not impractical, but rather practical to the highest degree. Such experiences do not alienate us from life; rather, they give us renewed strength to carry out our daily duties.
The decision to undertake such development must arise freely from within; no one can be compelled to follow this path.
