About this episode

Fanny Christou is a Cypriot/French political scientist and human geographer specializing in diaspora politics, transnational mobilizations, Palestinians and others, and the international relations between the Middle East and Europe. Currently, she serve as Acting Head of the MENA Programme and researcher at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs, and she is also an associate researcher at the Center for Arab and Mediterranean Studies (CAREP). Her work explores the political agency of diasporic communities in the context of democratic backsliding and transnational repression in light of foreign policy dynamics. She did a fieldwork in different sites including France, Sweden and Sudan. She takes an interdisciplinary approach that produces research that bridges academic scholarship and policy engagement.
