How many times have you been told that being healthy means being at a certain weight or BMI? The reality is that weight and BMI tell us very little about your health.
A much better way to know how healthy your body is are your labs. Whenever I'm working with a client who has health concerns, the first thing we do is gather some data by looking at what their specific health concerns are, and their bloodwork that would give us clues as to how their health is looking.
Your weight tells us one thing: Your gravitational pull.
Your labs tell us many things: How well your organs are doing their jobs, how well your body is regulating its blood sugar, your risk of certain things like cardiovascular events, if you are sick with an infection, if you have systemic inflammation, whether or not you have certain diseases, and so much more.
In this episode, I'm walking you through the labs that I look at and recommend most frequently as a dietitian. These are the labs that tell us what to focus on when it comes to gentle nutrition strategies, and it's a way of listening to what your body is communicating (which is absolutely part of intuitive eating).
