Don’t Let the Environment Dictate Your I...

Nouman Ali Khan
About this episode
"It's hard to be Muslim in my country these days..."

During this khutbah, delivered at the Nur-E-Islam Masjid in San Juan (Trinidad and Tobago), Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan shares an eye opening lesson on why we as Muslims must feel a sense of Islam on the inside, and not allow our external environment to dictate our faith or lack thereof.

Ustadh reflects on civilizations of the past, whose religious, political, and financial elites would control the narrative when it came to religion and how the general population would access God and His scriptures. He also raises a valid point about Muslims only identifying as such because their parents, ancestors or those in their immediate environment are Muslims. The Quran's message completely shattered this status quo, and Allah clearly laid out the criteria for being the best of mankind, which does not require power or financial status, or following the faith of our forefathers.

This profound revolution, therefore, is something we must deeply ponder whenever we feel that Islam is 'too difficult' to practice in today's society due to external pressures. When our Islam changes from within, the outward cannot affect us.
