81. Dr Kirsten Auret - Palliative Care and Communities
"We want care to be place-based. We want people to be able to get care close to home, or in their home. We want care to be experienced as Safe. We want care to be experienced as Compassionate. We want people's families to be included and Respected."
Dr Kirsten Auret is a palliative care specialist and assistant professor at the University of Western Australia Medical School.
She was naturally connected to her community, and the development of palliative care came from community roots. So, when she started hearing about compassionate communities and compassionate cities, it was a natural progression from what she was already doing, complementing the way that she was working.
