Why do mouth sounds drive some people cr...

BABABAM
About this episode

Let’s face it there are certain sounds that are just annoying to be exposed to, or sometimes even to think of! Someone chewing loudly with their mouth open, slurping soup, or making noise while eating pasta are a few examples.

But for some people, the impact of these sounds goes beyond being simply annoying; they bring on strong negative reactions. Those people have a neuropsychiatric condition called misophonia, which affects close to 1 in 5 people in the UK, according to a study by researchers at Kings College University which was published in Plos One journal in March 2023.

How exactly did we find out about misophonia? What causes it then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!
