SHOTS FIRED
When Time Stands Still (Part 2)
SDPD Officer Mike Martinez
H.A.L.T. and Call for Backup
Coast to Coast with Mike Koch and Jim McLintock
Officer Mike Martinez is a police officer for the San Diego Police Department. In his first 5 years as a police officer he was involved in four officer involved shootings resulting in the death of three of the violent suspects who attempted to take his life as well as the lives of his partners. In this two part series, Officer Martinez walks us through his life and the challenges he went through after each shooting starting with his first OIS eight months out of field training. He describes what he did and did not do for his self-care and how his personal and professional life began to deteriorate rapidly when he used unhealthy coping skills and didn’t ask for help. Officer Martinez went through the fire and made it out on the other side to show others that there is help and that you are not alone.
