FROM COLLECTOR TO BRAND HISTORIAN WITH F...

Ariel Adams
About this episode

This is Superlative: A Podcast about watches, the people behind them, and the worlds that inspire them. This week on the Superlative Podcast, host and aBlogtoWatch Founder Ariel Adams is joined by Fred Mandelbaum, Breitling Historian and Consultant to the Breitling CEO, Georges Kern. To start the show Ariel asks Fred to tell the audience the story of how Breitling found him for his current position. The two elaborate on the unique circumstances and story around Georges becoming CEO and bringing Fred into the brand. They discuss what Georges wanted to learn from Fred about the brand’s history when coming into his new role, and how Fred showed Georges his personal collection of Breitlings during a meeting of theirs to display a curated version of the brand’s history to its new CEO. Ariel asks for Fred’s opinion on industry topics such as dials being made in the past by hand versus today’s industrialized processes, and the battle of mechanical watches in comparison to quartz watches. As the conversation comes to a close, the two talk through the different decades of Breitling watches, and how the market has evolved throughout the years.
