Ms. Lilly Heath discusses the philosophy of health coaching and the personal or professional reasons dentists may wish to hire or partner with a health coach. Health coaches use the science of habit change to help their clients alter their lifestyle, especially for better managing chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, caries, and periodontal disease. Lilly is also a Gallup-Certified Clifton Strengths Coach and helps her clients leverage their strengths to accomplish their health-related goals. She has a special focus on pre-diabetes/type 2 diabetes and in helping healthcare providers manage lifestyle changes. Health coachesare in increasing demand and now used in many large medical organizations such as the Mayo Clinic and Kaiser Permanent Health Systems. Health coaches can become board certified through the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC), which partners with the National Board of Medical Examiners.
