About this episode
They say you have to be mad to be a goalkeeper. Well, Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation will have certainly been driving Jurgen Klopp mad so far this season. From injuries and howlers to shock transfers and penalty shootout heroics, it’s been a stark cry from last season’s stability between the sticks. With Alisson currently sidelined, Simon Mignolet enjoying pastures new, and Adrian adjusting to new surroundings, Theo Squires caught up with former Reds shot-stopper Adam Bogdan. The Hungarian is currently a free agent following his release from Liverpool earlier this summer, and while he’s keeping fit waiting for the right offer back in Budapest, he’s been an interested observer from afar following his former club during the opening weeks of the season. Opening up on his time at Anfield, Bogdan spills the beans on his move to the Reds, Brendan Rodgers’ sacking, and Jurgen Klopp’s arrival and how the German took the club from mid-table obscurity to European champions. The 31-year-old gives his view on Loris Karius' 2018 Champions League final performance, calling upon his own experiences of making mistakes when the whole Liverpool fanbase is watching, and just how hard it is as a goalkeeper when you suffer a concussion. He also shares what it was like at Melwood, revealing the likely and unlikely names who always shone in training. And finally, Bogdan reveals all about the Reds’ surprise summer signing, Andy Lonergan, having competed with the veteran for the goalkeeping jersey at Bolton Wanderers earlier in his career. It’s a fascinating listen. Enjoy! For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy
