Finding Your True North Through Yoga – B...

Dave Asprey
About this episode

IN THIS EPISODE OF THE HUMAN UPGRADE™… you’ll learn how a yoga practice can be a vehicle for inner transformation. This conversation looks past the popularity of yoga as a fitness trend and into its deeper potential for human development. You’ll also learn how yoga can be a way for you to explore your whole being—from physicality to emotions to thinking.

“A yoga practice often can be the missing ingredient for people,” says renowned yoga master Baron Baptiste. “Often I hear, ‘I added yoga practice to my routine and regimen, and it just shifted everything for me.’ It's a very different way of working your body, mind and breath integration.”

Baron devotes his own life to the study and practices of human development. For more than 30 years, he’s facilitated education through yoga principles and teachings.

His power vinyasa yoga— The Baptiste Methodology—includes the physical (asana), meditation (dhyana) and inquiry (niyama).

“Iyengar was one of my primary teachers,” Baron says. “One thing I borrowed from him is the rigor to a body alignment—a True North Alignment.”

Baptiste Yoga is a systematic approach made up of 53 poses, or asanas, that are linked together by connective momentum and consist of five classical pillars: Drishti (gaze), ujjayi (breath), bandhas (foundation), tapas (heat) and vinyasa (flow).

More about Baron Baptiste: Baron began to seriously study yoga at age 12. As the son of two of America's yoga pioneers, he’s got a great life story that highlights the transformative power of yoga. He trained extensively in all the major traditions before beginning to teach yoga in Los Angeles in the late 80s and creating Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga in the mid-90s. He’s worked with celebrities, Olympians and professional athletes. He founded the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute that reaches people around the world. Baron’s also a New York Times bestselling author of multiple books, Emmy-award film maker and public speaker.
