About this episode

Dick Telford was the first Sports Scientist appointed by the Australian Institute of Sport, he also worked alongside the Australian swim team and the Australian canoeing team as an Exercise Physiologist. Dick left the AIS Physiology Department to take up distance run coaching with the AIS track and field team. Dick was appointed the Australian athletics distance running coach in both the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, coaching Lisa Ondieki to the silver medal in the women's marathon at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, Australia's only Olympic Marathon medal to date. Dick has been the coach of Bonita Willis Australian Marathon National Record Holder and former World Cross Country Champion, Michael Shelley dual Commonwealth Games marathon champion and Lisa Weightman, multi–Commonwealth Games marathon medalist.
