Jamila Rowser has been a star in my section of the Internet since I first found the geek girl community. She’s one of the three founders of Geek Girl Brunch (along with Rachel from Episode 007 and Yissel who will be on an episode soon). It’s always so cool to talk to someone who started a thing that drastically changed my entire life and business.

 

Jamila is always working on something cool, and now that cool thing is her new comic Wash Day. Wash Day is a slice-of-life comic that pays tribute to the beauty and endurance of Black women and their hair. Jamila was inspired by the Toni Morrison quote, “If there's a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it.” It’s being funded on Kickstarter right now, so you should absolutely check that out. One of the coolest things about the Wash Day project (on top of the beautiful story) is the team that Jamila has put together. Jamila is writing, Robyn Smith has done the gorgeous art, J. A. Micheline is editing, and, now that this project has hit its stretch goal, Joamette Gil is translating the story into Spanish. Talk about a dream team.
