About this episode

Dotun and Andy are joined by David Cartlidge to pick through the smouldering wreckage of another week in European football!

After El Mundo revealed the staggering details of Messi’s contract, we study the fallout since as Messi looks to the courts and Barcelona’s presidential candidates scramble to back up their star player. We ask David whether Messi is the cause of Barcelona’s financial woes, or in fact a symptom of their profligacy.

There’s no contract on the table over in France, as the emergency auction for Ligue 1’s TV rights falls short: an anomaly or a prophecy of things to come across Europe? Plus we head to Portugal, where Sporting could be about to win the Portuguese Liga for the first time since the days of Cristiano Ronaldo.
