This story from American writer Louisa May Alcott recalls her personal experience with a wounded Maine veteran while was serving as a nurse in Washington D.C. during the Civil War. Alcott was a prolific writer and one of the first successful American female authors-that due to the success of her novel "Little Women" and the huge amount of well-written short stories like this one.
