Episode 139 ENGLISH PHRASAL VERBS LESSON...

BRENT
About this episode

In this lesson, I answer a question I got from a channel member, Nori from Hungary. She was wondering how to use the English phrasal verb, "belt out." We mostly use belt out when we talk about singing a song. I also go over several other ways we use the word, belt. There is a mini lesson about the English idiom, "A Dime A Dozen" at the end of the video if you are interested.

This lesson is about the phrasal verb, "belt out," but if you want to stay until the end, there is a bonus mini lesson about the english idiom a dime a dozen if you don't want to watch that there are chapters below to help you figure out exactly what you want to watch hello and welcome back to another english lesson this is american english with this guy i'm this guy my name is brent i've been an english teacher in the united states for 20 years the goal of this channel is to help you improve your english and the goal of today's lesson is to explain the phrasal verb belt out and the idea for this lesson comes from a channel member named nori from hungary she's been with the channel since day one and i truly want to say how much i appreciate all of the channel members yesterday was thanksgiving in the united states and that is a day to say what we are thankful for i am thankful for all the channel members all the subscribers anyone who watches these lessons and i hope that you get a little bit out of this i hope that your english improves because of the channel thank you so much so one thing that makes english so difficult is that you might know the definition of belt and probably most people realize oh that is something you wear around your waist to keep your pants up sure that is one definition and maybe the most common but there are other types of belts for instance when you go to the supermarket and you put your groceries on that little thing that brings your groceries closer to the cashier we sometimes call that thing a belt some airports will have a conveyor belt that will bring your luggage to you when you get off your flight did you also know that belt could be used as a verb and we use that when we say we are going to hit somebody which i hope you never have to use but think of a little brother and a little sister maybe they're not getting along very well one of them is annoying the other one they might say hey if you don't stop it i'm gonna belt you and that's another way to say i am going to hit you i have two kids a boy and a girl they're teenagers now but thankfully they never belted each other i would have a real problem as a parent if they belted each other they would get into a whole lot of trouble  0:00-0:40 Introduction to the lesson 0:41-4:33 How to Use the English Phrasal Verb Belt Out 4:34-4:54 How to Talk about Mild Weather in English 4:55-5:36 Thank You to Everyone 5:49-7:25 How to Use the English Idiom A Dime A Dozen
