Do You Speak Football?

THE ATHLETIC
About this episode

We are joined by journalist Tom Williams, whose work you can regularly read in Bleacher Report and AFP. He is the author of the new book Do You Speak Football?: A Glossary of Football Words and Phrases from Around the World which you can buy in bookstores and on Amazon today.

In this episode, we chat about the new book which focuses on how the language of football has evolved in countries around the world. You'll hear Tom explain why Germans love to use the word gherkin, who is football's William Shakespeare and which country has a similar football lexicon to England.

Most importantly you'll learn lots of new terms like cholismo & zweikampf that you can impress your friends with. If you want to continue the conversation on this subject use the hashtag #doyouspeakfootball
