Hour 3 of The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show focused heavily on the aftermath of the 2026 midterm elections, with Clay and Buck conducting a wide-ranging analysis of the Republican Party’s disappointing performance and what it means for the future of conservatism, the Trump movement, and the 2028 presidential race. The hour opened with a lengthy conversation featuring Ann Coulter, who argued that voter backlash against the Iran war was the defining factor behind Republican losses across key battleground states. Coulter contended that rising fuel costs, inflation, and broader economic concerns were directly tied to the conflict and rejected alternative explanations for the election results. The discussion examined public opinion on foreign policy, criticism of interventionism, debate over U.S. involvement in the Middle East, and concerns about the political consequences of continued military engagement abroad. The hosts and Coulter discussed President Donald Trump, JD Vance, Tulsi Gabbard, and other administration figures, focusing on disagreements over Iran policy and the emerging struggle over the future direction of the Republican Party.
A major theme throughout Hour 3 was the possibility that the 2026 midterms marked the beginning of the post-Trump leadership contest within the GOP. The conversation explored Vance’s criticism of the Iran policy, speculation about his positioning for a future presidential run, and the potential roles of figures such as Ron DeSantis. Coulter argued that anti-war Republicans could emerge stronger politically while the hosts debated how much distance future candidates might place between themselves and the Trump administration’s foreign policy decisions. The discussion also examined Republican losses in states including Texas and Michigan, reaction to races involving Abdul El-Sayed, the influence of pro-Israel advocacy groups, shifting voter attitudes toward Israel and foreign aid, demographic changes within the electorate, and strategic questions facing Republicans as they prepare for the next presidential cycle.
Following the Coulter interview, Clay and Buck turned to listener reactions to the election outcome. Callers and talkback messages reflected frustration among some Trump supporters while raising concerns about unmet campaign promises, ongoing foreign conflicts, and the broader direction of the conservative movement. The hosts repeatedly returned to their belief that the Iran war was the central issue influencing voter dissatisfaction and stressed the importance of candidly evaluating the causes of the Republican defeat rather than focusing on secondary explanations. They also discussed the limits of presidential power, the challenges of governing within divided institutions, and the need for Republicans to reassess strategy moving forward.
The second half of Hour 3 featured an interview with Jay Jackson, Chairman and CEO of Abacus Global Management, who provided financial and economic analysis following the election. Jackson explained why financial markets appeared to react positively to the election outcome, arguing that divided government and legislative gridlock historically create stability favored by investors. The conversation examined stock market performance, small-cap stocks, wealth preservation, retirement planning, taxation, and the importance of considering life expectancy when making long-term investment decisions. Jackson emphasized the significance of the ongoing generational wealth transfer, discussed portfolio allocation strategies, and argued that individuals should focus on controlling their own financial futures regardless of political developments.
The economic discussion expanded into broader debates about state-level governance, regulation, business investment, healthcare systems, artificial intelligence, and data center development. Clay and Buck questioned how political changes in states such as Texas could affect businesses, drawing on examples involving Elon Musk and corporate relocation decisions. Jackson highlighted the importance of data centers for AI advancement, medical research, and future economic growth. The hosts then discussed widespread voter resistance to local data center initiatives, noting numerous ballot measure defeats and previewing future conversations about how energy policy, technology infrastructure, and AI development may become increasingly important political issues.
The final segment of Hour 3 returned to political analysis, with Clay and Buck examining prediction market performance during the midterms. They cited the strong accuracy of election forecasting markets and suggested that prediction markets may be becoming more reliable indicators than traditional polling in many races. The hosts argued that the political focus has already shifted toward identifying the eventual successor to Trump within the Republican Party and debated who could rebuild the coalition that delivered victory in 2024. Despite expressing disappointment with the midterm results, both hosts encouraged listeners to remain engaged politically, emphasizing resilience, long-term conservative activism, and continued support for President Trump during the final two years of his term. The hour concluded with a message of optimism, urging listeners to view the election setback as a temporary defeat and to continue participating in the political battles ahead.
