Laura Jaye Cramer makes print magazines for funeral homes. In 2026. Naturally, the guys suggest adding AI and boobs to help with the investor pitch. Extremely useful input, as always.
After losing her father and brother to suicide about three months apart, Laura started making a zine to keep herself company in grief. That became Candlelight, one of the magazines she now publishes through Waiting Room Publishing for funeral homes, hospice, and palliative care spaces.
Laura joins Jeremie, Brian, and Taylor to talk about the guilt that can follow suicide loss, why so many people think they’re grieving wrong, and learning that enjoying your life and desperately missing someone can happen on the same day. They also get into what actually helps when someone’s grieving, including a check-in text that doesn’t come with homework.
Also: Jeremie explains why coffee breath and cigarettes smell like love, and a scratch-and-sniff grief magazine becomes a surprisingly serious proposal.
